What is what are a levels?

A-Levels (Advanced Level Qualifications) are subject-based qualifications undertaken in the UK, and also recognised internationally. They are typically studied over two years, usually starting at age 16. A-Levels are considered the "gold standard" for university entrance in the UK and are widely accepted by universities worldwide.

Students usually take 3-4 A-Levels. While there's no fixed 'best' combination, choices depend on university aspirations and career goals. Popular and important subjects include:

The first year is often referred to as the AS level, and the second year is the A2 level. Both years together make up the full A-Level qualification. Some schools now only offer the full A-Level, with assessment at the end of the second year. A-Levels involve a significant amount of independent study and critical thinking. Grades range from A* to E, with U indicating a failing grade.
